About Us

Dear Friends,

We are open for shoppers and consultations by in person appointment, via email, phone, or text.

All of our products have the herbs infused for no less than 6 weeks to insure maximum potency. We do not standardize any of our mixes, allowing the plants to gift us with their full healing properties. We grow a lot of the fresh herbs used in our oils, balms and tinctures and we occasionally offer them in our dried herb selection when they are available. All of our products are made in very small batches and we always use the highest quality herbs possible.

We still have to supplement our harvest with herbs organically grown by other farmers, wild-crafters or suppliers of the highest quality, both in our local region and elsewhere.

Thank you for supporting local, sustainable, small companies. Please feel free to visit us in Port Townsend, at our local Farmers Market, some of the craft fairs, or online. I hope to hear from all of you  as I look forward to the time spent with all of my customers.

Herbal Consultations:

Feel free to phone for an appointment. I can work over the phone or in person. Each consultation takes about one hour and is paid for by your donation (suggested $20 to $100). Work trade or barter are also accepted.

 With the warmest blessings,

Denise Joy has been Inducted into the Prestigious Marquis Who’s Who Biographical Registry

Ms. Denise Joy serves as an expert in traditional herbal medicine and dietary supplements

PORT TOWNSEND, WA, December 29, 2022 – Denise Joy has been inducted into Marquis Who’s Who. As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Drawing on over three decades of expertise, Ms. Joy specializes in traditional herbal medicine and dietary supplements, honoring the path of life connected with place and community. Since 1985, she has steadily built her business as the owner of Mountain Spirit Herbal Co, a home-based business located on seven lush acres in the Pacific Northwest. In this capacity, she is responsible for operating her small apothecary, offering consultation services to her customers, and growing and crafting high-quality herbal products, including oils, balms, tinctures, herbal teas, creams, dry herbs and more. Additionally, Ms. Joy conducts herbal apprentice classes for beginner and advanced students, travels and teaches at regional herbal conferences and sells her products online, in stores and at local farmers’ markets.

As a fourth-generation herbalist – and the only surviving descendant of an oral herbal tradition passed from woman to woman – Ms. Joy’s vocational path was passed to her by her great-grandmother, Fanny, from the mentorship of her Auntie Margaret from Hawaii, and others. As a commitment to her field, she has been active with several industry-related organizations, including the American Herbalists Guild. Likewise dedicated to civic advocacy, Ms. Joy contributes to the Port Townsend Farmers’ Market and teaches local at-risk youth, and others in her community, about herbal medicine.

Well regarded for her contributions to the field, Ms. Joy has received numerous accolades for her company. Among her professional accomplishments, she is most proud to have met all the United States Food and Drug Administration requirements and serves as an herbalist in Port Townsend, Washington. Additionally, she is proud to have mentored over 75 apprentices throughout Washington and the Pacific Northwest. Reflecting on a long career, she attributes much of her success to her passion for her specialty and to her top-quality medicinal products, which she creates personally to preserve the potency of the handpicked plants from her farm. Looking toward the future, Ms. Joy hopes to retire after successfully selling the business to someone who can take it nationally, and also hopes to continue to teach and travel.
